We have seen quite a variety of scooters, both gas and electric varieties, over the years, but perhaps none is quite so worthy of a category all its own like the stand up electric scooter. The most famous of these transportation marvels is the Segway PT, which was introduced in the early 21st century. Dean Kamen is the inventor who came up with the Segway, and one of the reasons why it has not gained very much wide popularity is its high price.
If you search their website looking to find out how much a Segway costs, you will not find your answer. However, by checking on a popular online auction site, we were able to learn that even gently used ones are going to set you back somewhere in the $4,000 to $5,000 range.
Another stand up electric scooter that is not yet in production but has been announced is called the Winglet, and it will be made and sold by Toyota. It is expected to be powered by lithium batteries similar to the Segway.
Personally, we find the traditional two-wheeled electric and gas scooters to be much more practical and cost-effective modes of transportation. However, if you want people to stare at you and ask you a lot of questions and money is no object then by all means get yourself a Segway.
